How it works

How it works

Three steps. Nothing is ordered until you say yes.

  1. 01

    Tell us about the site

Business, farm, building site or home; palisade or mesh; roughly how long and how high; the county.

  2. 02

    One contractor gets it

We pass it to one fencing contractor who covers your county. Your details aren't sent to a list.

  3. 03

    Site visit and written quote

They look at the ground, the access and the gates, and quote. Nothing is ordered unless you say yes.

We don't supply or install fencing ourselves. We pass your request to one contractor who covers your county. The prices on this site are suppliers' published prices, with their source.

The decision

Match the fence to the risk

A business frontage that only needs to stop people wandering in is a different job from a yard holding plant, tools and stock overnight. Height, the fence type and the gates follow from that. Palisade, at 2.0 m or 2.4 m, is the usual answer for yards, depots and compounds. Mesh is the answer where the site should stay visible to CCTV and the street.

The installed price comes down to the ground, the access and the gates more than the panels. Soft ground digs fast. Rock, old foundations and tarmac don't. A vehicle gate is a big item on its own.

At a house, palisade usually needs planning permission. Council guidance says the domestic exemption doesn't cover metal palisade or security fences. Read the planning rules.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How much does security fencing cost?

Supply prices are published; installed prices aren't. HERMEQ lists palisade pales from €4.63 ex VAT (€5.69 incl.) and 1.8 m posts from €20.12 ex VAT (€24.75 incl.). Fenceit lists mesh fencing at €25 per metre, VAT not stated. The installed price depends on the ground, access, gates and length, so it's quoted after a site visit.

Palisade or mesh?

Palisade is the heavier deterrent for yards and industrial sites. Mesh keeps the site visible to CCTV and suits schools, offices and frontages.

Do I need planning permission for palisade?

Usually, yes. Clare County Council's guidance says the exemption for walls and fences around a house covers railings and wooden fences "but not a metal palisade or security fences". HERMEQ, a fencing supplier, says the same: around a house, metal palisade isn't exempted development. Check with your council.

Do you do building site fencing?

Yes. Temporary mesh panels on feet, for hire or to buy. Choose 'Building site' in the quote form.

Who will ring me?

We pass your request to one fencing contractor who covers your county. Your number isn't sent to a list. They ring you, ask about the site, usually arrange a look, and give you a written quote. Nothing is ordered until you say yes. Listing a supplier's prices here doesn't mean it's the contractor we pass you to.
